Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.
Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.
Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.
Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.
Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love.Amen.
"The Greatest Gift is Love" - The greatest gift is Jesus and He is love. If you know Him you know love and are love. If you know Him you are the greatest gift to those around you because He lives in you. If He lives in you, you are Him and others will see Him in you. You have heard it said, "You are the only Bible some people will ever read." If others see Him in you they will come to know Him through you. You love is radient and draws others to you because they see Him in you.
How do I get this love? Jesus said, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness..." The secret to knowing the God kind of love is to seek to know Him. Jesus also said, "No one can come to the Father except the me." We cannot know God without knowing Jesus in a real and personal way. When Jesus started His ministry He said, "Repent for the Kindgom of Heaven is at hand." Matthew 4:17 Everything Jesus preached about was on the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of heaven.
The word repent means to turn back or a restoration of relationship, to be restored again, to have a change of heart, change of mind, to turn away from the ways of the world and realign oneself to the Kingdom of Heaven. An example of this translation is found the in the parable of the Prodigal Son. The son had squandered his inheritance and was wallowing in a pig pen. The son changed his mind and decided to go to his father to beg his forgiveness, he repented. The Kingdom of Heaven is the Father that welcomed the son back home and the father restored the son to all the rights and priveleges of the Kingdom.
To be restored to the Kingdom we must accept that Jesus paid the price for our sins so we can be restored to the kingdom. When we accept Jesus as our personal savior we have a relationship with Jesus and the Father. When we repent of all out sins the Father forgives us all our sins and restores us to rightousness, the place in God that Adam once knew. The power of darkness no longer rules our spirits. The Holy Spirit now is in us and intercedes for us to the Father.
Jesus and the Father live in you through the Holy Spirit as they are one and one with you. Let your light so shine before others that they see and come to know Jesus because of the love you share.
